Getting Started

How do I get started?
The first step is a free, confidential 15-minute phone or video consultation. It's a relaxed, no-pressure conversation to talk about what's bringing you in, answer your questions, and see whether working together feels like a good fit. What happens in a first full session?
A first session is mostly conversation. We'll talk about what's going on in your life right now, a bit of your history, and what you're hoping might be different. You don't need to have it fully figured out beforehand. Often, we'll dive right into the problem and start treating it. You should leave with a real sense of whether this feels like the right fit, not just information about me.

What if I'm not sure therapy is right for me, or right for right now?
That's exactly what the free consultation is for. If it doesn't feel like a fit, I'm glad to point you toward other resources.

Fees and Insurance

Do you accept insurance?
Riverbed Psychology is currently a private-pay practice. I'm in the process of credentialing with select commercial insurance plans, with availability expected soon, check back or ask at your consultation for the current status. I do not accept Medicaid.

What does a session cost?
Individual therapy sessions are $210 for a 50-minute session. Group therapy is $50 per session.

Do you offer psychological testing, and what does that cost?
Yes, testing is offered separately from therapy. Current rates: neuropsychological evaluation, $3,000. Psychological evaluation, $1,500. Dementia evaluation, $1,000. Disability evaluation, $500. Autism evaluation (ADOS-2) pricing available on request.

What to Expect

What's your approach to therapy?
My work is depth-oriented: psychodynamic, phenomenological, and existential. I'm less interested in managing symptoms in isolation than in understanding you as a whole person, including the meaning and history underneath what's going on. This isn't a manualized, skills-only approach: real change tends to come through an honest, ongoing relationship over time, not a checklist.

Do you specialize in religious trauma or faith transitions?
Yes, this is a central focus of my practice. I work with people questioning, leaving, or rebuilding a spiritual or religious life, alongside broader concerns like grief, life transitions, anxiety, depression, and questions of meaning and identity.

What ages do you work with?

I work with adolescents and adults. In testing, I work with all 

Logistics

Do I have to come to your office, or is telehealth available?
Both. I see clients in person at my Denver office and by secure telehealth. Through PSYPACT, I'm also able to see clients by telehealth in many other states; see the current list at psypact.gov/page/psypactmap.

Is what I share confidential?
Yes. What you share in session is kept confidential, with a few legal exceptions I'll explain clearly before we begin, such as risk of serious harm to yourself or someone else, abuse of a child or vulnerable adult, or a court order.

If I'm in crisis right now, is this the right resource?
No, please don't wait on a response from me. Call or text 988, or go to your nearest emergency room. Therapy is not equipped for active crisis or emergency support.
